Filmul are la bază romanul lui Lew Wallace, „Ben-Hur: o poveste despre Iisus”. Acest remake s-a lansat ieri în cinematografele din toată lumea şi a fost regizat de Timur Bekmambetov după un scenario scris de Keith Clark şi John Ridley. Am vizionat acest film azi de la ora 18:00 la Cinema Dacia Reşiţa şi cu această ocazie le mulţumesc organizatorilor pentru invitaţie. Ben-Hur a fost adus în cinematografe de cineforum, care au adus în această săptămână şi noul film Disney Pete şi dragonul. Din păcate a rulează doar versiune dublată şi am sărit peste. Mi se pare o idoţiene să-l duplezi pe Robert Redford, dar probabil la ce filme româneşti se scot, actorii români pentru a-şi lua salariile mai şi dublează. E mai uşor să dublezi decât să joci într-un film care să fie un success la public. Eu am revăzut versiunea din 1959 înainte de viziona acest film la cinema. E adevărat, nu se compară cu versiunea din 1959, dar e altceva. Inclusiv finalul e diferit. Cu siguranţă o să vreau să-l revăd iar cursele cu cai sunt super spectaculoase şi fac toţi banii.
Acţiunea începe în anul 33 cu acea cursă spectaculoasă şi apoi acţiunea merge 8 ani în urmă pentru a ne arăta cum Mesalla ajunge în armata romană. Judah Ben-Hur, un prinț acuzat pe nedrept de trădare chiar de către fratele său vitreg Messala, un ofițer în armata romană. Deposedat de titlu, separat de familia sa și de soţia sa, Judah este forțat să devină sclav. După 5 ani de zile în care trage la galere ca sclav pe o corabie romană, Judah se întoarce acasă căutând răzbunare, dar găsește, în schimb, izbăvire. Povestea sa de viaţă se derulează în acelaşi timp cu cea a lui Iisus, destinul său fiind decisiv influenţat de întâlnirile cu acesta. De această dată Isus are un rol mai important şi-l vedem şi la faţă, deoarece în versiunea din 1959 i-am văzut doar spatele.
Jack Houston e Judah Ben-Hur, un prinţ evreu în Ierusalimul ocupat de romani care e trădat şi acuzat pe nederept de fratele său vitreg Mesalla şi condamnat să fie sclav întreaga biaţă. Ben-Hur pierde totul părinţi, soră şi soţie. Singura cale de răzbunare e aceea să câştige cursa de care şi astfel îşi va găsi izbăvirea. Initiţial trebuia să-l interpreteze pe Mesalla, dar regizorul Bekmambetov a decis că e prea simpatico să joace un rol negativ;
Toby Kebbell e Mesalla un ofițer în armata romană și fratele vitreg al lui Ben-Hur. Acesta îii salveayă viața cu 8 ani în urmă. Din păcate acesta își tradează familia adoptivă pentru putere;
Morgan Freeman e șeicul Ilderim un bogătan nubian care-l antrenează pe Ben-Hur să devină un „vizitiu” pentru a se putea răzbuna pe fratele său vitreg. Față de versiunea din 1959, acesta are un rol mai important și e mai comic;
Nazanin Boniadi e Esther, o sclavă evreu și iubita lui Ben-Hur. Aceasta îi devine și nevastă înainte ca acesta să fie condamnat la sclavie. Față de versiunea din 1959, Esther e mai independentă puternică și luptă pentru ceea ce crede;
Rodrigo Santoro e Isus. Față de versiunea din 1959 acesta are un rol mai consistent;
Sofia Black D’Elia și Ayelet Zurer sunt Tizrah și Naomi, sora și mama lui Ben-Hur.
Spuneam că mi-a plăcut această versiune. În primul rând subiectul nu se mia bazează pe răzbunare ci pe iertare. Mi-a plăcut la nebunie prezentarea personajelor. Ne arată cum Mesalla ajunge în armata romană și avansează în grad, ce îl face să-i trădeze… E prima dată când am ținut cu amândoi și e prima dată când nu l-am urât pe Mesalla. Dacă v-ați pune în locul lui poate ați face la fel. Dar și regizorul a declarat pentru Hollywood Reporter că acest film a fost o provocare pentru el. Nu a încercat să imite capodopera din 1959, ci a încercat să facă ceva diferit.
Timur Bekmambetov a fost ezitant atunci când a fost abordat pentru a i se propune să regizeze o reînterpretare a unuia dintre cele mai iubite filme din istoria cinematografului: „Ben-Hur din 1959 nu a fost doar un film, a fost un fenomen care a afectat cultura secolului XX. Ăsta e motivul pentru care, atunci când mi s-a propus să-i regizez reîncarnarea, reacția mea inițială a fost ‘categoric, nu!’. Din fericire, producătorul Sean Daniel m-a convins să citesc scenariul, care s-a dovedit a fi incredibil și care m-a impresionat nu doar cu scene de acțiune senzaționale, dar mai ales cu personajele lui pline de profunzimi. Chiar dacă acțiunea și circumstanțele aparțin unei epoci de care ne despart mai bine de 2000 de ani, emoțiile și acțiunile personajelor au o rezonanță modernă, ce poate fi înțeleasă perfect de spectatorii de azi.”
Scenaristul John Ridley a avut inițial aceleași rețineri. „Poate că oamenii își aduc aminte de Charlton Heston și de cursa de care, dar Judah Ben-Hur e un pesonaj cu trăiri atât de bogate și de intense, el e un nedreptățit care caută răzbunare și izbăvire. Personaje convingătoare precum Ben-Hur și Messala sunt motivul pentru care ne putem oricând întoarce pentru a savura aceste povești. Am vrut să fac conflictul personal dintre acești doi foști prieteni la fel de intens și de memorabil ca și cursa de care. Tema filmului (răzbunare sau iertare) este eternă. Din multe puncte de vedere, încă trăim în Imperiul Roman, încă îi respectăm valorile. Lupta pentru putere, lăcomia, dorința de suces încă sunt regulile după care funcționează lumea. Oamenii încă încearcă să obțină diverse lucruri într-o lume crudă și extrem de competitivă și numai câțiva realizează că adevăratele valori sunt colaborarea, compasiunea și iertarea.”
Lăsați ce spun criticii americani. Acordați o șansă acestui film. Nu am avut așteptări de la el. Cinstit mă aștepta să fie un copy paste la filmul din 1959, dar am rămas surprins care e motivul pentru care Mesalla îl condamnă pe Ben-Hur, cum s-a pus accentul pe relația dintre cei 2 și că trebuie să iertăm în loc să căutăm răzbunare. Cu siguranță merită să vă rupeți 2 ore din viața dumneavoastră pentru a-l viziona la cinema. Dacă eu nu v-am convins, poate vă convinge trailer-ul subtitrat în limba română…
