O oglindă a procesului parcurs de animația românească de-a lungul timpului, secțiunea competițională Animest dedicată scurtmetrajelor autohtone continuă să promoveze și la această ediție performanțele creatorilor de la noi din țară. Între 7 și 16 octombrie, 14 noi producții vor fi prezentate pe marele ecran în cadrul Competiției Românești și vor concura pentru premiul secțiunii, în valoare de 5000 de lei, oferit de Institutul Cultural Român. Prezențe constante la Animest sau artiști aflați la debut, autorii filmelor incluse anul acesta în Competiția Românească s-au întrecut în abordări curajoase și imagini captivante, explorând teritorii fantastice sau întorcându-se asupra celor mai intime experiențe.
Primele bilete la Animest.17 au fost puse în vânzare pe https://eventbook.ro/festival/animest.
Două dintre scurtmetrajele incluse în secțiunea competițională dedicată filmelor autohtone concurează la această ediție și pentru Trofeul Animest: Suruaika, un film de Vlad Ilicevici și Radu C. Pop, în care un bărbat adoptă un pui de pisică fără să știe ce grozăvie îl așteaptă, și Sasha (r. Serghei Chiviriga), despre un adolescent care ajunge să descopere într-un mod ciudat adevărul despre propria identitate sexuală.
Cate Cherecheș a câștigat ediția din 2021 a Incubatorului de animație – programul Animest dedicat liceenilor pasionați de filmul de animație. Anul acesta ajunge în Competiție cu primul său film: Tab ur et, despre ascensiunea și decăderea vieții. Surprinzătoare va fi și revederea cu Maria Scutaru, câștigătoarea ediției din 2020 a programului, care debutează în secțiunea de scurtmetraj românesc cu Three, o perspectivă 2D asupra separării.
Adrian Băluță revine în competiția dedicată filmelor autohtone cu 947 – Ce coincidență!, o poveste dintr-o altă lume, în care nimic nu e ceea ce pare, iar Ioachim Stroe se întoarce cu Viață de clovn, un cocktail de tehnici 2d, 3d, live action și efecte speciale în care un om este nevoit să-și trăiască toată viața ca un clovn. Propunerea lui Călin Gherghevici la această ediție este Vecinul, un film în care doi copii își scapă mingea în curtea unei case abandonate.
O dansatoare pierde legătura cu realitatea pe măsură ce memoria ei se deteriorează în Nu-mă-uita, filmul regizoarei Ruxandra-Maria Socor, în timp ce Sentiment familiar, rezultatul colaborării dintre artistul vizual Tudor Prodan și creatorul muzical Alex Halka, explorează într-o manieră inedită lupta cu depresia. Relația artistului cu propria sa creație a inspirat-o pe Alina Gheorghe în realizarea filmului Degete de sticlă, în timp ce Copilul și urâtul (r. Victor Andrei-Ionescu) imaginează povestea din imaginarul unui băiat, în care ,,urâtul’’ este personajul negativ.
Un grup de infractori panda reușește să spargă o bancă în The Great Cane Robbery (r. George Sorinca), în timp ce un băiat se străduiește fără succes să-i fure mânecile unei fete în Oprește-te! Termină! Încetează! (r. Eugen Munteanu). The Joy, filmul Biancăi Sava, este povestea unei fete ale cărei transformări fizice normale de-a lungul timpul atrag batjocura celor din jur. Cu timpul, efectele bullying-ului asupra sa se vor transforma în acceptare și iubire de sine.
În afara competiției, iubitorii filmelor de animație vor vedea pe marele ecran Amok, o coproducție Ungaria–România în regia lui Balázs Turai, premiată anul acesta cu Cristalul Annecy dar și Pune-te în locul meu, cel mai recent film semnat de cineasta Laura Georgescu Baron.
