„După 40 de zile”, al patrulea lungmetraj al lui Andrei Gruzsniczki, va avea premiera pe marile ecrane din România pe 20 august.
Distribuit de AVVA MMIX Studio, producția a avut premiera mondială, în luna aprilie, în cadrul celei de-a 43-a ediții a Festivalului Internațional de Film de la Moscova și va avea avanpremiera națională, luna aceasta, în cadrul Festivalului Internațional de Film Transilvania – TIFF.
Lungmetrajul are în centru prietenia dintre Emil și Titi. Acțiunea se petrece într-o comună ca un colț de rai, locuită de oameni dintr-o bucată. Asta, la o primă vedere. Emil nu crede în spirite. Titi este prietenul lui de când lumea. Iar Smaranda, soția lui Emil, ei bine, ea este la doi metri sub pământ și se pregătește de ziua judecății. După parastasul ei de 40 de zile Titi pare cel mai oropsit om de pe fața pământului și începe să se stingă pe picioare. Emil vrea să reaprindă în el scânteia vieții. Dar eforturile lui sunt inutile. Zilele lui Titi par numărate. Căci Smaranda s-a mutat după parastas în casa lui. De ce îl bântuie Smaranda?, asta e o poveste, dar lui Titi îi e greu s-o zică, pentru că este despre lupta pe care fiecare trebuie s-o ducă pentru a-l înțelege și accepta pe celălalt, într-o prietenie sau într-o poveste de iubire.
„Cei doi protagoniști reflectă cele două tipuri de cunoaștere – cunoașterea pozitivă, analitică, și cunoașterea intuitivă, cea care sporește misterul. În acest film am căutat să alcătuiesc un tip de cinema care observă și înregistrează fapte, acțiuni, experiențe de viață cotidiană, din perspectiva «luptei» care sfidează trecerea timpului. O luptă pentru supraviețuire de care suntem mai mult sau mai puțin conștienți. Spre deosebire de orice altă luptă, aceasta nu va fi vreodată câștigată. Dar, ca în orice luptă, se poate capitula sau continua până în pânzele albe, chiar dacă știm finalul. Și mesajul acestei povești este că, indiferent de greutăți, lupta merită dusă”, explică Andrei Gruzsniczki, care semnează și scenariul.
Distribuția este alcătuită din Mircea Andreescu, Valer Dellakeza, Gabriel Spahiu, Marian Negrescu, Simona Urs, Ștefan Mirea, Valeriu Bâzu și Eugen Titu.

„După 40 de zile” este o producție AVVA MMIX Studio, în coproducție cu Hai Hui Entertainment și Tangaj Production. Lungmetrajul a fost realizat cu sprijinul Centrului Național al Cinematografiei. Cofinanțatori: Opel, Mediacom, B.V. McCann Erickson, Propaganda Creative Services, Macromex, Publicis Groupe Media. În colaborare cu Televiziunea Română, susținut de CEC Bank, Annabella, Pupa Milano, Skull Films și Chainsaw Europe, susținut de Societatea Română de Radiodifuziune.
Proiectul a fost dezvoltat în cadrul Baltic Event Co-Production Market (Tallinn, 2016), MIA/ Cinema Co-production Market (Rome, 2018) și Glocal in Progress (San Sebastian, 2019).
Absolvent al Universităţii de Teatru şi Film din Bucureşti în 1994, Andrei Gruzsniczki a debutat cu „Cealaltă Irina”, care a câştigat Marele Premiu şi Premiul FIPRESCI la CinePécs Moveast IFF 2008, a fost desemnat cel mai bun film românesc la Festivalul de Film Transilvania 2009 şi a primit Trofeul ANONIMUL în acelaşi an. Al doilea lungmetraj al lui, „Quod Erat Demonstrandum (Q.E.D.)”, a primit Premiul Special al Juriului (Festivalul de la Roma 2013), The Golden Taiga Award (IDFF Spirit of Fire 2014) şi Prix de Syndicat Francais de la Critique de Cinema (Arras IFF 2014). „Zavera”, cel de-al treilea lungmetraj al cineastului, a avut premiera mondială în noiembrie 2019, în competiția Festivalului Internațional de la Cairo.
„După 40 de zile” a fost filmat în primăvara anului 2019 și finalizat la sfârșitul anului 2020.
