La 25 de ani de la Revoluția din decembrie 1989, ICON production lansează pe DVD unul dintre cele mai premiate documentare românești din toate timpurile, „Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceaușescu” de Andrei Ujică, „un film pe care orice student la istorie, om politic sau om de rând trebuie să îl vadă”, după cum titra publicația „Washington Post”.
Producția a avut premiera mondială la Festivalul Internațional de Film de la Cannes 2010, fiind lansată în cinematografele din România în toamna aceluiași an.
Decupat din peste 1000 de ore de imagini de la Arhiva Naţională de Filme şi Televiziunea Română, filmul acoperă 25 de ani din viaţa lui Nicolae Ceauşescu, de la instalarea sa la putere, în 1965, până la prăbuşirea din 1989.
„Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu” încheie o trilogie despre comunism din care fac parte „Videograme dintr-o revoluţie”, realizată de Andrei Ujică în colaborare cu Harun Farocki (1992), şi „Out of the Present“ (1995).
Filmul artistic de montaj a avut parte de o proiecţie specială la Cannes 2010 şi de cronici excelente în toate marile publicaţii ale lumii. Lipsit de voice-over sau de comentarii din off, „Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu” este un eseu despre grandoarea şi absurditatea puterii, care demonstrează că imaginile de propagandă conţin în ele însele şi propria contradicţie.
Premiza lui Andrei Ujică este provocatoare: „La urma urmei, dictatorul nu e decât un artist care are posibilitatea să-şi pună integral în practică egoismul. E doar o chestiune de nivel estetic dacă el se cheamă Baudelaire sau Bolintineanu, Ludovic al XVI-lea sau Nicolae Ceauşescu”.

„Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu”, inclusă de publicația „New York Times” printre cele mai bune 20 de filme ale anului 2011, a fost realizată de ICON production, în asociere cu Televiziunea Română, cu sprijinul Centrului Naţional al Cinematografiei şi cu participarea The Media Partnership, Fundaţia ARTE VIZUALE şi HFG / ZKM Filminstitut.
DVD-ul cu „Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceauşescu” conține subtitluri în franceză și engleză. Acesta este însoțit și de o broșură cu minibiografiile tuturor personajelor care apar în documentar. Printre cele 127 de figuri se regăsesc și Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, Prințul Charles, liderul nord-coreean Kim Il-Sung sau Mao Zedong.
DVD-ul va fi disponibil din 16 decembrie în rețeaua librăriilor Cărturești, Humanitas, Librarium, dar și la Librăria Engleză “Anthony Frost” din capitală.
