Downton Abbey este un film britanic regizat de Michael Engler după un scenariu de Julian Fellowes.

Am văzut Downton Abbey la Grand Cinema Băneasa. Serialul, care ne-a cucerit prin poveste, îşi aduce tot farmecul său pe marile ecrane.
Acţiunea peliculei are loc în 1927, la aproximativ doi ani de la finalul serialului, iar familia Crawley se pregăteşte pentru cea mai mare onoare pe care a primit-o vreodată: vizita regală a Regelui George V si a Reginei Mary.
În timpul evenimentului, haosul domneşte la Downton deoarece această vizită specială necesită multe pregătiri, în cele mai mici amănunte.
Din punctul meu de vedere, magia serialului Downton Abbey provine din atenţia pe care o acordă personajelor sale. Chiar dacă se întâmplă mereu ceva important în universul lui Downton Abbey, scenariştii nu îşi uită niciodată personajele şi găsesc întotdeauna modalităţi ca să le pună în valoare.
În Downton Abbey regăsim două categorii sociale: aristocraţii şi personalul/angajaţii. În timp ce familia Crawley contribuie în mod semnificativ la pregătirile marelui eveniment, în realitate, cei, care se asigură că totul se desfăşoară perfect, sunt angajaţii de la Downton şi personalul Regelui si al Reginei. Cele două echipe de angajaţi trebuie să găsească o modalitate de a lucra eficient împreună, lucru cât se poate de complicat, căci personalul familiei regale nu este dispus să coopereze cu angajaţii de la Downton. Rivalitatea dintre cele două echipe de angajaţi creează multe momente comice, presărate cu umor britanic.
Este esenţial de menţionat faptul că distribuţia este minunată, iar fiecare actor, prin personajul său, reuşeşte să se facă remarcat. Revin o parte din actorii din distribuţia originală, printre care: Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Sophie McShera, cărora li se alătură David Haig, Tuppence Middleton şi Imelda Staunton, iar Contesa Violet Dowager, interpretată excepţional de marea actriţă Maggie Smith, nu îşi va dezamăgi, nici acum, fanii deoarece are unele dintre cele mai bune replici din film.
