Documentarul semnat de Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, Michaela Kirst și Ebba Sinzinger, care urmărește fenomenul tăierilor ilegale și al comerțului cu lemn din România, Peru, Rusia și China, va avea premiera internațională pe 23 martie, în competiția F:act Award din cadrul CPH:DOX. Festivalul Internațional de Film Documentar Copenhaga, care are loc în perioada 18 – 29 martie, este unul dintre cele mai importante festivaluri de profil din Europa.
Filmul documentar de lungmetraj „Lemn”/ „Wood” urmărește investigațiile inițiate de Alexander Von Bismarck, unul dintre urmașii lui Otto Von Bismarck și actualul director al organizației non-guvernamentale Environmental Investigation Agency. Aceste investigații au fost desfășurate în România, Peru, Rusia și China. Cu ajutorul camerei ascunse, Alexander și echipa lui documentează traseul lemnului, din pădure până în casele noastre, iar când este cazul se infiltrează chiar în mijlocul comerțului cu lemn. Regizoarea și producătoarea Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan a făcut în urmă cu 10 ani un scurtmetraj pe tema tăierilor ilegale și tot ea a fost cea care a semnalat în urmă cu aproximativ șapte ani ONG-ului american Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) problema tăierilor ilegale de lemn din România. Insistența ei l-a adus în România pe Alexander von Bismarck, directorul EIA. Monica a participat activ, timp de mai mulți ani, la documentarea activiștilor de mediu de la EIA în România, filmând alături de echipa din Austria și Germania.
„Am inițiat acest demers deoarece mi-am dorit să înțeleg și să documentez o muncă importantă, aceea a luptei împotriva tăierilor abuzive și ilegale de lemn. Prin intermediul acestui proiect documentar, Alexander von Bismarck a venit prima dată în România și de atunci echipa lui luptă împotriva tăierilor abuzive sau ilegale de la noi din țară. Am dorit să înțeleg întregul proces al tăierilor de lemn și al comerțului cu lemn și să-l prezentăm unui public cât mai larg, astfel încât să avem acces în interiorul unul sistem care are probleme importante ce trebuie expuse”, menționează Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, co-regizoarea și unul din producătorii filmului.
O investigație realizată cu camera ascunsă de către EIA în România, prin care se arată cum o companie austriacă acceptă să cumpere lemn de proveniență ilegală, a fost prezentată în cadrul unei conferințe de presă la București, în 2015, urmată de proteste ample ale societății civile în mai multe orașe din România.

„Am venit în România pentru că aici există cea mai mare întindere de pădure și cea mai mare problemă cu tăierile ilegale. România se află în mijlocul unor eforturi critice de combatere a tăierilor ilegale din păduri cu valoare unică în lume.”, spunea Alexander von Bismarck, referindu-se la dezbaterea privind Codul Silvic de la acea vreme.
Filmul atrage atenția asupra legislației deficitare în privința protejării pădurilor, precum și asupra impactului pe care defrișările masive le au asupra mediului.
„Lemn” va putea fi văzut în România în această vară în câteva proiecții speciale, iar lansarea filmului în cinematografe va fi anunțată în cursul lunilor viitoare.
Filmul este o coproducție cu Austria și Germania prin 4 Proof Film (România), WildArt Film (Austria) și Film Tank (Germania). Documentarul „Lemn” / „Wood” este susținut de Centrul Național al Cinematografiei, Creative Media, Eurimages, Institutul de Film Austriac, Fondul de Film din Viena, Televiziunea ORF, Fondul de Film din Hamburg și Medienboard Berlin.
Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan este producătoare și regizoare de film. A regizat documentarele de lungmetraj „Doar o răsuflare”, „Dacii liberi” și „Lemn”. Monica a produs, co-produs sau a fost producător delegat pentru mai multe lungmetraje de ficțiune și documentare care au fost selectate și premiate la Sundance, Berlinale, Locarno etc („Acasă”, „Doar o răsuflare”, „Chuck Norris vs. Communism”, „Domestic”, „Colivia”, „Timebox”). „Doar o răsuflare”, documentar de lungmetraj în regia Monicăi Lăzurean-Gorgan, a fost premiat la Sarajevo IFF în 2016 cu Premiul pentru cel mai bun film documentar. De asemenea, pentru acest film Monica a primit premiul Gopo pentru Cel mai bun film documentar românesc în 2017, premiul pentru Cel mai bun film documentar la LET’S CEE Film Festival din Austria în 2017 și premiul pentru Cel mai bun film documentar românesc în cadrul Festivalului Internațional de Film Documentar ASTRA de la Sibiu în 2016.
Michaela Kirst este regizoare și producătoare din Germania. A co-regizat documentarul observațional „Isus, te iubesc!” și în prezent lucrează frecvent cu televiziuni precum ARTE și ZDF.
Ebba Sinzinger este producătoare în Austria. Are în portofoliu filme precum „Pianomania”, „Refugee Lullaby” sau „The Forgotten Space”.
Environmental Investigation Agency este o organizație non-guvernamentală din SUA care inițiază investigații în legătură cu problemele de mediu.
