Am văzut cam jumătate din filmele lui M. Night Shyamalan și, chiar dacă nu s-au ridicat toate la nivelul lui Unbreakable (preferatul meu făcut de el, deși mi-a plăcut la nebunie și The Sixth Sense), n-am putut să nu aștept cu nerăbdare lansarea peliculei Split, pe care am văzut-o aseară la Grand Digiplex. Concluzia: McAvoy face spectacol. Oricine a văzut trailer-ul și-a dat seama că acest film avea potențial nu doar datorită subiectului, ci și a actorului principal care trebuia să joace o persoană suferind de sindromul personalităților multiple. Aici nu e vorba doar de o dedublare, ci de o disociere în 23 (nici mai mult, nici mai puțin) de personalități diferite.
Astfel, Kevin trebuie să cedeze frâiele, pe rând, celorlalte personalități ale sale, complet diferite unele de celelalte. Din 23 de persoane care trăiesc în același cap, e clar că trebuie să fie și vreo două mere stricate, pe care celelalte personalități încearcă să le țină cât de cât în frâu. M. Night Shyamalan nu se joacă și te introduce din prima în acțiune: nici nu te-așezi bine în scaun și ultimele trei fete aflate la o aniversare – Claire (Haley Lu Richardson), Marcia (Jessica Sula) și singuratica Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy) – sunt răpite de un tip necunoscut. Acesta se va dovedi a fi Dennis, personalitatea care suferă de o tulburare obsesiv-compulsivă.
Misterul și tensiunea sunt țesute în poveste fără oprire, deoarece ghinionistele fete află mai târziu decât spectatorii ce se întâmplă de fapt cu răpitorul lor. Diferite în gândire și abordare, Claire, Marcia și Casey încearcă prin variate metode să evadeze, lucru greu de înfăptuit atunci când nu ai doar un gardian, ci 23. Problema cea mai mare e că personalitățile responsabile de răpire sunt cele care trâmbițează cu fior în voce și chiar extaz apariția celei de-a 24-a personalități, una feroce și periculoasă, cunoscută sub numele de „Bestia”. Nu știu cât vor fi de mulțumiți de film cei care suferă de acest sindrom, dar Shyamalan știe cum să joace această carte în favoarea sa.
Personajele pe care le creează (toate jucate de McAvoy) sunt atât de diferite și de credibile, fiecare în felul său, încât nu poți să-ți mai iei ochii de la ecran. Acest sindrom e scuza perfectă pentru a crea un scenariu palpitant, care de fapt încearcă să arate cât de mult ne conturează experiențele din trecut și cât de diferiți pot ajunge doi oameni, chiar dacă amândoi au fost în egală măsură traumatizați. Deși dr. Fletcher ar trebui să fie de fapt cea care ar putea să se ridice la nivelul lui Kevin și al celorlalte personalități ale sale, lumina reflectorelor e furată de Casey, una dintre tinerele răpite, care pare să fi înțeles problema celui care le ține captive.
Cu o naturalețe extraordinară care-i permite să abordeze o gamă largă de sentimente și trăiri atunci când apare pe ecran, Casey încearcă să-i intre pe sub piele lui Hedwig (nu, nu bufnița lui Potter), o personalitate în vârstă de 9 ani care pare să aibă multă putere asupra lui Kevin și a celorlalți. Alte două personalități care ies în evidență sunt doamna Patricia, care te trimite cu gândul la Psycho, sincer, și Barry, tipul pasionat de modă care încearcă să-i țină în frâu pe Dennis și acoliții săi. Însă nimic nu ar fi fost posibil fără un director de imagine talentat care să surprindă ușurința cu care McAvoy trece de la un personaj la altul, de parcă ar fi un șarpe care-și leapădă pielea.
Flashbackurile care ne ajută să-i cunoaștem mai bine pe Kevin și pe Casey, antagoniști cu prea multe în comun, sunt introduse cu agilitate într-o poveste care se derulează rapid și îți răstoarnă perspectiva în numeroase rânduri. Am simțit în filmul ăsta aceeași intensitate nestăpânită și același iz de supranatural care pare totuși credibil din peliculele lui Shyamalan în care apare Bruce Willis, personal, mi-a plăcut chiar mai mult decât The Sixth Sense. Tot ce îmi doresc este ca finalul deschis să fie o portiță către alt univers pe care l-a creat regizorul în 2000, care să continue astfel povestea Bestiei și a lui David Dunn. RO IMAGE 2000 vă aduce filmul la cinema din 27 ianuarie.
