„TATA”, filmul documentar scris și regizat de Lina Vdovîi și Radu Ciorniciuc, va avea premiera internațională în cadrul prestigiosului Festival Internațional de Film de la Toronto (TIFF), care are loc în perioada 5 – 15 septembrie 2024. Documentarul, produs de Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, continuă colaborarea de succes a celor trei cineaști, care au lucrat împreună și la apreciatul documentar „ACASĂ”, regizat de Radu Ciorniciuc și câștigător a peste 40 de premii naționale și internaționale.
Singurul documentar românesc selectat la Festivalul Internațional de Film de la Toronto, „TATA” va participa alături de alte nume sonore pe scena internațională în cadrul celebrului eveniment, care se află la ediția 49.
„TATA”, o poveste personală puternică și curajoasă a coregizoarei Lina Vdovîi, a fost filmat de-a lungul a șase ani în Italia, Republica Moldova și România și este o explorare intimă a relației dintre o fiică pe cale să devină mamă, ce caută să se vindece de suferințele trecutului, și un părinte înstrăinat care-i cere ajutorul pentru a expune abuzurile la care a fost supus de-a lungul anilor de către angajatorul său din Italia. Pe măsură ce Lina se implică mai adânc în investigație, descoperă nu doar suferințele tatălui său, ci și un tipar de violență domestică care a afectat generații întregi în familia ei.
„Atunci când tatăl meu mi-a cerut ajutorul, știam exact ce aveam de făcut ca jurnalistă. Dar ca fiică, m-am blocat. Ne îndepărtasem în ultimii ani și eram convinsă că odată cu plecarea mea din Republica Moldova, trecutul va rămâne la graniță, iar eu voi avea o viață liniștită. Apoi, l-am văzut suferind, așa cum văzusem și alți muncitori imigranți despre care am scris de-a lungul anilor. Mi-a amintit de propria mea durere și am știut că nu voi putea întrerupe ciclul traumei generaționale din familia noastră dacă-i voi întoarce spatele”, spune Lina Vdovîi.
Realizat în familie, de către coregizorii Lina Vdovîi și Radu Ciorniciuc, care formează un cuplu și în viața privată, documentarul pune în valoare rădăcinile lor în jurnalismul de investigație și interesul lor continuu pentru temele de familie, conexiune și provocările unice pe care fiecare generație le înfruntă în încercarea de a-și croi propriul drum în viață.
„Documentarul TATA nu este doar despre căutările noastre personale, profund umane. Este un film construit în jurul unei investigații serioase, care arată dinamicile toxice din interiorul unui caz de abuz extrem la locul de muncă. O realitate mută, prea puțin cunoscută în România, dar trăită de foarte mulți alți români și moldoveni care muncesc în străinătate”, adaugă Radu Ciorniciuc.
De-a lungul perioadei de pre-producție și producție, „TATA” a fost prezentat la IDFA Forum 2021 și selectat la Chicken & Egg (Egg)celerator Lab, 2022; American Film Showcase, 2020; UnionDocs Early Production Lab, 2021; ESoDoc, 2020; Circle Women Doc Accelerator, 2020; Secțiunea In progress din cadrul Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest 2023; Cannes Docs Showcase 2023.
De asemenea, documentarul a câștigat Premiul Eurimages Co-Production Development la CPH: DOX Forum 2021 și Premiul Alex Leo Șerban la Transilvania Film Festival (TIFF, Cluj-Napoca, 2019).

Lina Vdovîi a scris scenariul documentarului „ACASĂ/ ACASĂ, MY HOME” (2020), câștigător al premiului pentru Cel mai bun film documentar la Premiile Gopo 2021 și al altor numeroase premii. Originară din Republica Moldova, Lina trăiește în România și are o vastă experiență în jurnalism de investigație. În 2021, a fost nominalizată la European Press Prize și în prezent, lucrează ca producător pentru televiziunea germană ZDF. „TATA” marchează debutul ei regizoral în lungmetrajul documentar.
Radu Ciorniciuc – regizor
Radu Ciorniciuc este regizor, director de imagine și jurnalist de investigație. Debutul său documentar, „ACASĂ/ ACASĂ, MY HOME”, a câștigat Premiul pentru cea mai bună imagine la Sundance Film Festival (2020) și a fost nominalizat la Premiile Academiei de Film Europene. Este co-fondatorul organizației Casa Jurnalistului și a colaborat cu publicații precum The Guardian, Al Jazeera și Channel 4 News. Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan – producător
Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan este una dintre cele mai active și experimentate producătoare de film documentar din România, membră a AMPAS/Oscar și EFA. Printre documentarele produse de ea se numără „ÎNTRE REVOLUȚII” (2023), regia Vlad Petri, câștigător al premiului FIPRESCI la Berlinale 2023 „ACASA, MY HOME” (2020), regia Radu Ciorniciuc, câștigător a 40 de premii naționale și internaționale.
