Am văzut Mothers’ Instinct la Cinema City Sun Plaza, mulțumită invitației primite de la Vertical Entertainment.
În suburbia americană bogată din anii 1960, populată de mașini strălucitoare, peluze îngrijite și garduri albe, vecinele Alice (Jessica Chastain) și Celine (Anne Hathaway) se bucură de o prietenie strânsă, care trece peste aspectele mai banale ale vieții domestice. Cu toate acestea, atunci când are loc o tragedie, legătura lor se destramă. Vinovăția, durerea și paranoia alcătuiesc un amestec amețitor în acest remake în limba engleză al filmului din 2018.
Regizorul filmului original, Olivier Masset-Depasse, ar fi trebuit să se ocupe de regie, dar, când a trebuit să părăsească proiectul, Benoit Delhomme i-a luat locul și și-a făcut, astfel, debutul regizoral. Încă de la început, experiența lui Delhomme ca director de imagine (la filme precum Lawless, The Theory Of Everything) este evidentă în fiecare cadru compus cu acuratețe. O secvență de deschidere aduce imediat o notă ciudată; Celine (Hathaway) culege flori din grădina ei însorită și luxuriantă, în timp ce vecina ei Alice (Chastain) o privește prin perdele, învăluită în umbră. Partitura lui Anne Nikitin este amenințătoare atunci când Alice intră în casa lui Celine, doar pentru ca filmul să răstoarne imediat așteptările cu o petrecere aniversară surpriză, care evidențiază relația puternică, stabilită de mult timp între cele două femei.
În timp ce Alice și Celine nu ar putea fi mai diferite – prima frustrată de viața de casnică și disperată să se întoarcă la slujba ei de jurnalistă, cea de-a doua fericită cu soarta ei tradițională – ambele își adoră fiii de opt ani. Evident, Alice nu-și dorește un alt copil, în timp ce Celine nu poate avea altul. Totul se schimbă atunci când fiul lui Celine, Max (Baylen D. Bielitz), suferă un accident tragic. În săptămânile care urmează, Celine o îndepărtează pe Alice, părând să o învinovățească pentru că a fost martoră la accidentul lui Max, dar nu a putut să-l oprească, apoi începe să se consoleze petrecând timp cu fiul lui Alice, Theo (Eamon O’Connell).
La început, comportamentul puțin ciudat al lui Celine ar putea fi pus pe seama durerii sale, care l-a dus pe soțul ei Damien (Josh Charles) într-o depresie debilitantă.
