Cel mai bine mi se pare că aduce cu This Is the End – care portretizează aceleași relații de prietenie cam date peste cap și aduce actori foarte comici în rolurile principale, cu apariții episodice ale unor alți colegi faimoși de la Hollywood. Ce are în plus The Night Before față de producția mai sus menționată? Un plus de dramatism și o poveste mai închegată. Deși are același ton, de parcă face mișto de sine însuși, scenariul reușește totuși să pună în valoare încercarea prietenilor de a-și încheia tradiția memorabil, ca niște adevărați camarazi. Mi-au plăcut foarte mult referirile dese la alte filme: Die Hard (colindul din scena de karaoke, Hans Gruber, simfonia a IX-a), The Great Gatsby și, aș zice eu, It’s a wonderful life. Ador elementele meta, parcă adaugă un plus de savoare poveștii, o fixează și mai bine în realitate.
Povestea ne face din prima cunoștință cu 3 prieteni puși pe șotii, care de 14 ani sărbătoresc Crăciunul împreună, ca o adevărată familie. Dar ei nu respectă tradiția obișnuită, ci au propriile ritualuri pe care le duc la capăt an de an, născocind însă mereu prostii noi pe care să le facă. Oamenii însă cresc, iar când ai trecut de 30 de ani începi să te preocupi mai mult de tine și de o potențială familie decât de vechile legături cu amicii tăi fumați. Acesta este și cazul nostru, spectatorii fiind martorii ultimei reuniuni de acest tip, înainte ca maturizarea să-și spună cuvântul. Târziu.
Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) este tânărul orfan, care se agață cu disperare de tradiția cu prietenii săi pentru că nu mai are cu cine petrece Crăciunul, sărbătoarea care celebrează mereu familia. Are 33 de ani, dar n-a făcut nimic cu viața lui: prietena l-a părăsit, banii nu prea are, nu face nimic cu talentul său. Chris e tipul faimos, sportivul popular care nu mai are timp să stea cu prietenii săi apropiați pentru că e prea preocupat de fani și faimă. Anthony Mackie mi se pare extrem de haios, el e pus altfel în valoare de poveste atunci când vine vorba de comic, Isaac e implicat în multe faze cam deocheate (ca limbaj), în timp ce Chris e implicat în faze care produc un comic de situație foarte reușit.
Regizorul Jonathan Levine mărturisise într-un interviu că doar momentele dramatice din film au fost păstrate ca la carte, comedia fiind de cele mai multe ori improvizată. Asta nu poate decât să confirme talentul celor care apar în producție. Deși are clișeele sale (spiritul Crăciunului, Grinch, Clarence?), filmul adus în România de InterCom Film și care va fi disponibil în cinematografe începând cu data de 11 decembrie merită o vizionare dacă vă place stilul abordat în comedii precum This Is the End sau Superbad. Nu mă declar încântată pentru că aveam așteptări mai mari, atât de la umor cât și de la poveste, dar e în spiritul Crăciunului și are momente muzicale foarte bune – haioase și catchy. Crăciunul e perioada comediilor, așa că mergeți și vedeți cum se va termina aventura imprevizibilă a trei prieteni care nu-și dau încă seama cât de mult contează unul pentru celălalt. Dacă nu suportați limbajul vulgar și pozele mai deșucheate, încercați totuși altă variantă.
