“Tulip Fever” este o dramă de epocă regizată de Justin Chadwick după un scenariu scris de Tom Stoppard, având la bază romanul semnat de Deborah Moggach.
Din distribuţie fac parte: Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Jack O’Connell, Zach Galifianakis, Judi Dench, Christoph Waltz, Holliday Grainger, Matthew Morrison şi Cara Delevingne.
Am vizionat “Tulip Fever” miercuri la Cinema City Afi Palace Cotroceni. Filmările au avut loc în vara anului 2014, însă lansarea a fost amânată de multe ori înainte să se stabilească premiera pe 1 septembrie 2017 (SUA). În România, pelicula este adusă de Forum Film.
Acţiunea se desfăşoară în Olanda, în secolul al XVII-lea, perioadă în care se crease o isterie în jurul lalelelor. Piaţa este guvernată de două lucruri: matematica şi contextul. Matematica este simplă. Reprezintă realitatea, caracteristicile esenţiale, oferta şi cererea pentru orice se tranzacţionează. În cazul contextului, a poveştii, psihologia umană îşi face loc, căci aceasta îi determină pe oameni să ia decizii nebuneşti, să se manifeste şi să treacă de la pesimism la optimism. Indiferent de situaţie, matematica iese de fiecare dată învingătoare.
Piaţa devine cea mai interesantă atunci când diferenţa dintre matematică şi context este masivă, iar preţurile nu mai sunt realiste. Astfel, aşa numitul “balon” financiar reprezintă contextul perfect pentru o dramă, cum este cazul lungmetrajului “Tulip Fever”.
Pornind de la această premisă, acţiunea filmului are loc, aşa cum am zis deja, în secolul al XVII-lea, la Amsterdam, în timpul febrei lalelelor. Inspirat din romanul scris de Deborah Moggah, “Tulip Fever” spune povestea lui Cornelis Sandvoort (Christoph Waltz) şi a tinerei sale soţii, Sophia (Alicia Vikander), care se îndrăgosteşte de Jan Van Loos (Dane DeHaan), un pictor angajat de Cornelis pentru a le face portretul.
Probabil vă aşteptaţi ca povestea de dragoste să fie în centrul acţiunii, însă, de fapt, situaţia financiară de pe piaţa lalelelor este cea care predomină. Nu ştiu de ce, însă povestea de iubire a celor doi tineri nu m-a captivat, iar Dane DeHaan nu m-a convins în rolul de pictor îndrăgostit, dispus să facă orice pentru persoana iubită, personajul său fiind, aş îndrăzni să spun, plictisor.
Piaţa lalelelor poate fi considerată o metaforă pentru incertitudinea iubirii, pentru graba de a investi totul într-o singură persoană, iar când relaţia şi gândul unui viitor împreună cu persoana iubită se încheie brusc, rămâne în urmă doar durere. Consider că premisa ar fi putut să aducă un film excelent, însă nu are substanţă, nu transmite un mesaj puternic, iar unele personaje, cum ar fi cazul pictorului, nu reuşesc să se conecteze cu publicul.
Trebuie să menţionez că povestea este narată de servitoarea şi prietena Sophiei şi, nu am avut cum să nu mă gândesc, cum ar fi aflat aceasta atâtea detalii despre stăpâna ei şi cum ar fi ştiut să ne spună evenimente la care nu a participat. Acest aspect nu este deloc credibil, însă pelicula compensează cu alte elemente, cum ar fi piaţa lalelelor şi personajul Cornelis Sandvoort redat perfect de Christoph Waltz.
Alicia Vikander, laureata premiului Oscar pentru “The Danish Girl”, se descurcă foarte bine în rolul Sophiei, însă scenariul nu îi oferă suficient pentru a face un personaj memorabil.
În concluzie, “Tulip Fever” ne arată că febra lalelelor şi cea a dragostei sunt mai asemănătoare decât am fi crezut.
Pelicula rulează în cinematografe de vineri, 15 septembrie, fiind distribuit de Forum Film. Vizionare plăcută!
