“Suburbicon” este un film american regizat de George Clooney după un scenariu scris de Clooney, Joel Coen, Ethan Coen şi Grant Heslov.

Sunt o fană a fraţilor Coen şi încerc să nu ratez niciun film din portofoliul acestora, de aceea am ignorat recenziile negative primite de “Suburbicon” în presa străină şi m-am dus cu entuziasm la vizionarea specială a filmului, care a avut loc marţi la Grand Cinema Băneasa. Am procedat foarte bine deoarece, chiar dacă “Suburbicon” nu poate să îşi facă loc printre cele mai bune filme ale fraţilor Coen, nu este deloc o peliculă slabă şi merită să fie vizionată pe marile ecrane.
Încă de la primele cadre, se poate observa stilul unic al fraţilor Joel şi Ethan Coen de a crea poveşti, transpuse apoi pe marele ecran în filme care au scenarii bine scrise, dialoguri inteligente şi mesaje puternice. Ceea ce îmi place la “Suburbicon” este că îmbină perfect elemente de thriller, comedie neagră şi dramă. Deşi firul narativ este previzibil şi încă de la început veţi anticipa în ce direcţie se îndreaptă povestea, filmul nu îşi pierde din interes şi suspans, reuşind cumva să ţină atenţia spectatorilor până la final.
“Suburbicon” este despre ipocrizia oamenilor care îşi pierd timpul şi energia discriminând, aruncând ură şi dispreţ către persoane nevinovate, în timp ce adevăratele pericole se află după colţ, doar că nimeni nu are timp să vadă adevăraţii monştri, fiind mult prea preocupaţi cu rasismul şi ura către persoane care încearcă să îşi trăiască viaţa în linişte.
Regia este semnată de George Clooney, iar Matt Damon este cap de afiş alături de Julianne Moore. Suburbicon reprezintă numele unei comunităţi care duce o viaţă aparent liniştită. Totul se schimbă în minţile locuitorilor atunci când o familie de afro-americani se mută în cartier. O panică nejustificată cuprinde comunitatea, iar oamenii creează tot felul de scenarii neverosimile, dorind să gonească din cartier familia de afro-americani din simplul motiv că nu sunt albi.
În timp ce toţi se concentrează pe această aşa-zisă ameninţare, nimeni nu îşi dă seama că adevăraţii monştri trăiesc chiar după colţ.
Într-o seară, în casa lui Gardner Lodge pătrund nişte infractori. În urma acestui eveniment, soţia lui Lodge îşi pierde viaţa, iar cumnata lui, sora geamănă a soţiei sale, se mută în casa lui pentru a avea grijă de nepotul ei, Nicky.
Ceea ce urmează de aici, sunt răsturnări de situaţie care, aşa cum am precizat deja, sunt uşor de anticipat. “Suburbicon” ne aminteşte de filmele clasice, din anii 1930-1950, un aspect care mi-a plăcut mult, fiind o mare fană a perioadei de aur a Hollywood-ului.
Pe scurt, filmul în regia lui Clooney prezintă două poveşti: prima, tragedia din familia lui Gardner Lodge, moartea lui Rose, suferinţa lui Nicky şi mutarea lui Margaret în casa lui Lodge, şi, a doua, nedreptatea prin care trece o familie de culoare, terorizată de vecinii albi care vor să îi gonească din comunitate. Odată ce publicul realizează cine sunt făptaşii şi cine sunt victimele, acţiunea devine oarecum repetitivă şi evidentă, oamenii din comunitate îşi îndreaptă ura către familia de afro-americani, în timp ce ignoră adevăratele pericole din cartier.
Mesajul filmului se referă la răul pe care discriminarea, nedreptatea şi ura îl pot face unei comunităţi, însă mi-ar fi plăcut ca acest aspect să fie tratat în profunzime pentru a avea un impact mai mare.
Coloana sonoră aduce un plus important întregii producţii, fiecare moment tensionat fiind bine punctat de muzică, cu ajutorul căreia suspansul şi misterul se menţin până la ultima scenă a peliculei.
