Nu cred că există om care să nu-și fi dat cu părerea cu privire la problema valului de refugiați care a lovit Europa în ultimul timp, datorită conflictelor din Orientul Mijlociu. Acest subiect a stârnit o serie de controverse datorită diferitelor abordări propuse, niciuna suficient de bună cât să mulțumească atât locuitorii Europei, cât și miile de oameni loviți de soartă în căutare de azil politic. Regizorul finlandez Aki Kaurismäki a ales să prezinte acest subiect atât de sensibil în cel mai eficient mod posibil: cu umor, singura unealtă care poate să aducă o umbră de speranță într-o chestiune abordată mereu cu un aer fatalist. Nu mă credeți, așteptați scena cu partida de poker.
Pelicula începe într-un ritm agale, cu scene fără dialog în care ochii sunt mai convingători decât o mie de cuvinte. Urmărind în paralel eroii principali, publicul face cunoștință mai întâi cu Wikström (Sakari Kuosmanen), un fost agent comercial care vrea să se retragă din afacere și să-și cumpere un restaurant. Apoi, decorul se schimbă și ne este prezentat Khaled (Sherwan Haji), un refugiat sirian care ajunge în Finlanda pe ascuns, hotărât să ceară azil din cauza situației dezastruoase de acasă. Ambii actori sunt extraordinari în rolurile lor, mai ales sirianul Haji.
Cum o arată și posterul filmului, drumurile refugiatului și fostului agent se intersectează, ducând la apariția unor schimburi de replici extrem de haioase. Folosindu-se de o situație des întâlnită în societatea europeană, regizorul prezintă cu abilitate mai multe tipuri de reacții cu privire la valul refugiaților, care se reduc, până la urmă, la două tipologii. Poți să fii om și să tratezi cu bunătate o persoană deja lovită de soartă sau poți să te transformi în exact modelul pe care-l acuzi. Acționând sub deviza că-și apără țara de potențiali teroriști, extremiștii finlandezi caută să persecute orice refugiat, ajungând ei înșiși să fie niște pericole pentru o societate civilizată.
Deși filmul e o dramă din prisma subiectului abordat, umorul se află la tot pasul, grație dialogurilor excelente dintre noul patron și cei trei angajați ai restaurantului. Replicile lui Calamnius (Ikka Koivula) sunt de un umor extraordinar, am râs cu lacrimi. Și aspectul îl ajută, acesta părând a fi un soi de Rasputin/Samurai Jack, varianta finlandeză. Regizorul Kaurismäki își merită cu prisosință premiul Ursul de Argint oferit la Berlinale 2017, datorită grației și umorului cu care a reușit să pună în scenă o dramă contemporană, fără a-ți lăsa impresia că vrea să-ți dea o lecție. Doar o alegere. Independența Film a adus filmul în România încă de vineri, grăbește-te să-l vezi la cinema!
