Actor de teatru, film și televiziune, Virgil Andriescu va fi omagiat cu Premiul Gopo pentru Întreaga Carieră la cea de-a 14-a ediție a Galei Premiilor Gopo, care va avea loc pe 24 martie, la Teatrul Național din București. În cele peste cinci decenii de activitate, Virgil Andriescu a interpretat zeci de roluri apreciate și a colaborat cu regizori consacrați precum Andrei Blaier, Mircea Veroiu, Sergiu Nicolaescu și Nae Caranfil.
Născut în 1936 la Botoșani, Virgil Andriescu a absolvit Institutul de Artă Teatrală şi Cinematografică „I.L.Caragiale” (promoţia 1963, clasa Alexandru Finţi). Imediat după absolvire a fost angajat la Teatrul Tineretului din Piatra Neamţ, iar din 1965 la Teatrul de Dramă din Constanţa. De-a lungul carierei sale, Virgil Andriescu a fost director al teatrelor Ovidius din Constanța și Odeon din București. A interpretat o largă paletă de roluri în zeci de spectacole de dramă și comedie, pe mai multe scene din România, printre cele mai importante fiind Cain, din „Jocul vieții și al morții în deșertul de cenușă” de Horia Lovinescu și Macbeth din piesa omonimă de Shakespeare.
În cinema a debutat în 1968, în coproducția româno-maghiară, regizată de Károly Makk, „Frumoasele vacanțe”/ „Bolondos vakáció”, acumulând în palmares, de-a lungul carierei, peste 30 de roluri din care șase principale în filme artistice de lungmetraj, și alte peste 30 de roluri din care șapte principale în filme de televiziune. Filmografia lui Virgil Andriescu cuprinde titluri precum „Labirintul” (Șerban Creangă, 1980), „Orele unsprezece” (Lucian Bratu, 1985), „Luminile din larg” (Stelian Stativa, 1986), „Umbrele soarelui” (Mircea Veroiu, 1986), „Privește înainte cu mânie” (Nicolae Mărgineanu, 1993) și „Punctul zero” (Sergiu Nicolaescu, 1996), dar și colaborări cu regizori precum Andrei Blaier („Fapt divers”, „Bătălia din umbră”, „Vacanța cea mare”, „Divorț… din dragoste”), Lucian Pintilie („Balanța”), Dan Pița („Pas în doi”) și Nae Caranfil („E pericoloso sporgersi”).
Unul dintre cele mai importante trofee Gopo, Premiul Pentru Întreaga Carieră, a fost acordat la edițiile precedente unor actori emblematici ai filmului românesc: Marin Moraru (2009), Draga Olteanu-Matei (2010), Ion Besoiu (2011), Iurie Darie (2012), Mitică Popescu (2013), Radu Beligan (2014), Coca Bloos (2015), Constantin Drăgănescu (2016), Ion Dichiseanu (2017), George Mihăiță și Vladimir Găitan (2018), Ileana Stana Ionescu (2019).
Gala Premiilor Gopo 2020 este organizată de Asociaţia pentru Promovarea Filmului Românesc împreună cu Asociația Film și Cultură Urbană, cu sprijinul Centrului Naţional al Cinematografiei, Teatrului Național București și Babel Communications.
