Scris și regizat de Jeff Nichols, Midnight Special e un thriller SF care ridică o mulțime de întrebări. Cu o distribuție de invidat, din păcate acest film nu s-a lansat în cinematografele din România. Probabil niciun distribuitor român nu a avut încredere în acest film. Dar ProVideo l-a lansat pe DVD și Blu-ray. Cu acastă ocazie țin să le mulțumesc pentru cadoul făcut. Tema e simplă: Până unde sunt în stare să meargă părinții pentru a-și salva fiul?!
Alton e un băiat de opt ani care are niște abilități extraordinare, însă acestea îl transformă în ținta unei secte de extremiști religioși, numită Ferma, conduși de Calvin Meyer (Sam Shepard). Prima dată facem cunoștință cu el într-o cameră de hotel unde poartă ochelari de înnot și acoperit cu un cearceaf citind benzi desenate, în ciuda faptului că în cameră e beznă. Ferestrele sunt acoperite cu carton pentru a nu intra lumina. De ce?!
Are abilități speciale. Emană lumină din ochi dar nu ni se explică ce văd acele persoane când el se uită la ele. Din păcate nu ni se explică de unde provin aceste abilități. Dar la un buget de 18 milioane de dolari, probabil nu au avut timp de explicații. Băiatul interceptează un fel de transmisiuni militare și de aceea e crescut de cei din Fermă. Aceștia își bazează credința pe ceea ce Alton „descifrează”.
Roy, tatăl lui Alton, este disperat să-și protejeze fiul și încearcă să-l ducă într-o ascunzătoare secretă fiind urmăriți de poliție, FBI, CIA, NSA. Roy e ajutat de prietenul său din copilărie Lucas și de Sarah, fosta soție. Cei patru fugari sunt vânați și de o forță guvernamentală, condusă de Paul Sevier (Adam Driver), care vrea de asemenea să folosească abilitățile lui Alton. Pentru Anton se luptă Ferma și agenția guvernamentală pentru a-l folosi în scopuri știute doar de ei. Singurii care îi vor binele sunt părinții.
Jaeden Lieberher e Alton, un băiat de 8 ani care are abiități speciale. Sparge lucruri: ferestre, becuri, oprea mașini, lucruri din astea. Pe măsură ce a crescut lucurile s-au agravat. Acum doarme ziua și stă treaz noaptea (zici că e vampir 🙂 ). Emană un spectru vizibil de lumină din ochii lui;
Michael Shannon e Roy Tomlin, tatăl natural al lui Alton. El e singurul capabil să facă ce trebuie pentru fiul său. El e ajutat de prietenul său din copilărie Lucas (Joel Edgerton) și fosta sa soție Sarah (Kristen Dunst);
Midnight Special e un thriller plin de urmăriri pline de tensiune, dar care au loc într-un ritm lent, care erupe spre final. Singurul lucru care m-a deranjat a fost ca Nichols nu ne explică de unde Alton are aceste puteri neobișnuite și de ce cei 2 părinți la un moment dat. Nichols are o viziune unică asupra acestei lumi și vrea să ne împărtășească ceea ce a creat, dar poate fi considerat frustrant. Nu e perfect, dar e un film care vă va ține în tensiune și veți fi curioși ce se întâmplă cu Alton și familia sa. Dacă vă place acest gen de film, e filmul perfect pentru voi.
În timp ce actrorii oferă interpretări bune, pot spune că minunați au fost Shannon și Driver. Adam Driver l-a interpretat pe Kylo Ren în Star Wars VII. De această dată îl joacă magnific pe Paul Sevier care ajută guvernul să-l găsească pe Alton. Mi-a plăcut la nebunie cum „face schimbarea de macaz” și capacitatea sa de lua decizii corecte, nu doar pentru cei care lucrează. Shannon cunoscut pentru rolul lui Zod din Man of Steel, îl interpretează perfect pe Roy. Acesta e un tip tulburat, dar e un om de încredere și face orice pentru binele lui Alton. El e singurul care crede că copilul său are o menire mai mare decât avem noi restul pământenilor. Privirea sa e plină de regret și încearcă să-și ispășească păcatele ajutându-și fiul. Deși e prezentat ca un om crud care nu se pocăiește și e neiertător lipsit de amabilitate, în realitate nu e așa. Meritul acestui personaj e în totalitate a lui Shannon care a jucat ți în celelalte 2 filme ale lui Nichols (Take shelter și Mud).
Midnight Special e un film plin de mister atât ca scenariu cât și ca personaje. Urmărirea e un plan secund, pe primul plan fiind abilitățile lui Alton și ceea ce poate să facă. Finalul e unul deschis și lasă loc de o continuare, dar din păcate filmul nu și-a scos nici măcar jumătate de buget. Probabil cinefilii s-au speriat să meargă la el pentru că Take shelter și Mud nu sunt filme de văzut la cinema.
Midnight Special: Puteri misterioase s-a lansat în România pe DVD şi Blu-ray. Pe Blu-ray filmul conţine 2 elemente speciale care nu sunt subtitratte în limba română: Priviţi mai atent la cele 5 personaje: Ray, Sarah, Lucas, Seviar, Alton şi Lumea nevăzută.
