Predatorul ne va urmări în cinematografe din 14 septembrie. Filmul este distribuit în România de Odeon și este regizat de Shane Black – îl mai știi pe Hawkins din primul Predator, cel cu Schwarzenegger din 1987? El e. Dacă un actor din filmul original ia frâiele scenariului și regiei, ar trebui să fie în sfârșit un sequel demn, corect?
Chiar și așa, am plecat la vizionarea de la Grand Cinema de ieri cu așteptări relativ mici, sperând măcar la acțiune cu adevărat intensă. Deși anumite decizii de producție nu prea mi-au plăcut și nici povestea nu-i tocmai răsărită dacă te apuci să o descoși, The Predator mi-a depășit cât de cât așteptările, reușind să mă amuze copios, să-mi ofere un spectacol demn de gladiatori și să-mi maseze nostalgia acolo unde se simțea amorțită.
Despre poveste este îndeajuns să afli dinainte că un nou predator a aterizat pe Pământ și este capturat și studiat de oameni. Datele oamenilor de știință ne confirmă evenimentele petrecute în primele două filme, fiind așadar o continuare directă și nu un remake așa cum părea atunci când era anunțat filmul. Chiar dacă nu le-ai văzut (se spune că orice bărbat trebuie să vadă primul Predator cel puțin o dată în procesul său de maturizare) sau nu le-ai mai văzut de mult, noul Predator are o poveste de sine stătătoare.
De acțiune sunt mulțumit dar nu pe deplin. Deși luptele nu întârzie să apară și curg din abundență mai ales în a doua jumătate a filmului, unde acțiunea nu mai oprește în nicio stație, aș fi vrut mai multă lumină în scenele filmate. Eu unul asociez întunericul în filme de acțiune și horror cu bugetul scăzut al producției, lipsa luminii funcționând mai degrabă ca truc regizoral care ascunde efectele vizuale neconvingătoare, decât cu intenția de a crea tensiune. Noroc că vânătoarea prădătorului galactic nu numai că ține întreaga noapte dar chiar și o bună bucată din dimineață, când îl poți vedea în toată splendoarea sa extraterestră.
Personajele sunt exact la fel de nebune pe cât ți-ai închipui că vor fi. Literalmente, unitatea de soldați care-i dau de furcă Predator-ului sunt un grup de soldați cu diferite probleme psihice care se aflau în drum spre terapie când Predator scapă de sub control. Aceste personaje sunt crema care dă surprinzător de mult umor filmului. Am râs mai tare și mai des decât mă așteptam. Am fost foarte încântat mai ales de câteva replici care fac referire directă la vechiul film fix când nu te aștepți, fără să repete exact replica originală. Asta nu-i face pe bravii soldați niște personaje memorabile, dar nici nu ar trebui să fie asta intenția.
Protagonistul filmului, Quinn McKenna, este jucat de Boyd Holbrook și este primul care dă nas în nas cu Predator-ul. Ca să aibă dovezi îi fură câteva elemente din echipament și le trimite acasă în secret, unde fiul său cu autism le declanșează din greșeală, punând o mare țintă pe familia McKenna. Pe Holbrook îl cunoști ca Pierce din Logan. Începe să-mi placă acest actor, în cazul de față este poate al doilea cel mai bun rol al său după cel din Logan.
Olivia Munn este personajul feminin obligatoriu, Casey Bracket, o femeie de știință chemată de organizația care îl studiază pe prădător pentru a-și da cu părerea, ca apoi să ajungă alături de McKenna și unitatea sa de soldați traumatizați ca să încerce să-l oprească pe extraterestrul fugar din a provoca prea multe daune umanității. Are instincte de luptătoare neașteptat de bune de la un biolog, talente pe care scenariul i le cere în ciuda realismului. Un aspect cam greu de digerat dar peste care putem trece cât de cât cu vederea atâta timp cât umorul și acțiunea ne mențin interesul.
Nu te aștepta de la scenariu să vină cu întorsături de situație spectaculoase. Clișeele într-un astfel de film menit să revigoreze nostalgia filmelor de acțiune ridicole ale anilor 80-90 își au locul fără să deranjeze. În plus, majoritatea acțiunilor personajelor au totuși o logică și ni se explică motivațiile în mod destul de plauzibil, față de alte filme care s-au descotorosit până și de așa ceva. Mai mult, am apreciat că în dialogurile personajele au fost incluse câteva critici ale universului Alien v Predator, cum ar fi originea numelui de Predator, într-o manieră amuzantă.
Clar, Shane Black a știut ce să facă cu acest univers. Nu numai că readuce cât de cât acțiunea pură a vremii, dar dezvoltă povestea oamenilor și a Predator-ilor, aducând ceva nou pe masă mai ales când este vorba de intențiile și cultura acestei rase de vânători interstelari.
Altfel, filmul nu e neapărat apreciat de toată lumea. Cei care nu sunt entuziasmați de acest univers SF vor simți filmul ca oricare alte mediocritate, bună de o vineri seara cu bere și nachos cu colegii de la muncă. Personal, deși consider că se putea și mai bine, The Predator este un film bunicel pentru ceea ce își propune și sunt recunoscător că proiectul a ajuns pe mâinile unui fan și membru din vechea distribuție. Nimic nu o să se compare cu clasicul Predator, dar The Predator este din punctul meu de vedere cel mai interesant sequel pe care l-a primit în cei 31 de ani care au trecut. Pe deasupra, lasă loc de încă o continuare la final, și sper că filmul va fi destul de bine primit ca Shane Black să se întoarcă cu o rundă secundară de vânat prădători.
